Each year, Auburn Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren congregation in Auburn, Calif. (Phil Sparling, pastor) hosts a patriotic concert in celebration of the Fourth of July. The Auburn Journal included an article last week in advance of the concerts. A portion of the story appears below. Click here to read the complete article.
Homeland concert is fireworks for the ears
The Homeland 4th of July concert has become a summer staple the past five years in Auburn, as patriotic people from all over the area have packed the Auburn Library Amphitheater and made the event an Independence Day must-hear.
“Last year we got a congressional award and a commendation from the city of Auburn,” said Lorin Miller, director for the Placer Pops Chorale and the Worship Leader at Auburn Grace Community Church. “The drive behind it was an opportunity to give to the community a musical event that was positive about our country. The community response has been amazing.”
The event will feature performances by the Placer Pops Chorale and the Auburn Grace Community Church. The music will be a broad range of styles, all with a patriotic theme throughout.
“There was a sense that within our small community some of the celebrating of our nation’s founding and some of the music was kind of being lost,” said David Wickstrom, Administrative Pastor at Auburn Grace Community Church. “The format is very much the same year to year. It’s about 90 minutes of really quality music. The people in the orchestra are some of the best musicians in the area and they calendar this each year. They love playing in it.”
The concert is presented by A Gift Of the Heart, a non-profit founded in part by Lorin Miller in order to bring uplifting and quality music to the community.
