As the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival, hosted by Grace College’s Lilly Center for Lakes and Streams, approaches, several special events have been announced. The festival will be held May 26-28 in Warsaw and Winona Lake, Ind., and is a celebration of local waterways. It serves as the official kick-off to lakes season around the county.
The weekend will feature a Saturday fireworks show presented by Zimmer Biomet over Center Lake and a Sunday Memorial Day Ceremony presented by 1st Source Bank at Center Lake Park to commemorate the holiday weekend.
The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. over Center Lake in downtown Warsaw.
The Memorial Day Ceremony will begin Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. This ceremony is an effort to commemorate the holiday, honor veterans, current military, and fallen soldiers, and serve as one of the only Memorial Day celebrations in the Warsaw area. Warsaw Community High School JROTC members will perform a flag ceremony and play TAPS on the bugle.
Also, on Sunday, David Fisher, jump roping Guinness World Record holder, will perform.
Fisher, also known as the “Rope Warrior,” holds the world record for the most revolutions turned with a jump rope while pushing off and landing only on the backside in one minute—or “rump-jumps”—for completing 56 of these jumps in one minute.
Fisher was a Double A volleyball player at Emory University in Atlanta, and trained using a jump rope. Since then, Fisher turned jumping rope into his full-time profession as he promotes wellness and creative physical fitness. He serves as president of The Rope Warrior, Inc.™ and originator of Ropenastics™ which combines jumping rope with gymnastics techniques.
Rope Warrior shows are scheduled for Sunday, May 28 at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. at Center Lake Park in downtown Warsaw.
Festival admission is free and other activities include Friday and Saturday evening concerts, food, live animal shows, display tanks, kids’ activities, exhibitors, a Memorial Day ceremony and more!
