Grace Brethren churches around the world are encouraged to set aside November 5 to celebrate the global Charis movement and to learn about how God brought Charis into existence and is using this vibrant alliance to bring the hope of Christ to the corners of the globe.
The Charis Alliance is rooted in efforts to plant churches around the world which began in 1900. Today, there are more than 3,600 congregations affiliated with the Charis movement in 20 countries. These are all groups who have adopted the Charis Commitment to Common Identity that was first approved in 2015 during an historic meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
The movements in each country also have approved the Charis Commitment to Common Mission, which outlines mutual commitments to church planting, leadership development and ‘doing good’ in our communities. Whether on the local, regional or international level, the members of the Charis Alliance seek to share their experience and resources, and to partner with one another in ministry. It was approved in 2008 during another historic meeting near Schwarzenau, Germany (the birthplace of our movement).
