Dear Timothy,
As it has now come to the evening of my days, I want to express my gratitude and joy towards you and your commitment to abide in the steady arms of our Lord. Even now He’s beckoning you to take His hand and walk with Him into the unknown, into the wind and the waves, to make you a man – His man for His glory. Will you follow His lead?
This life is a vapor. Our world is a wasteland of want, but you’ve been given true drink and now you have an opportunity to lead others to that Stream because that Stream flows in you and He quenches your deepest thirst. You were given life to give it back. Nothing that you’ve received is to end with you, but to be passed on through suffering and service. Our Lord Jesus spent Himself on this earth so that you might spend yourself for others, to lay down your life for your friends, that the lost might become friends of God. But it’s not you who strives, but the Holy Spirit who strives in you for this end.
There are no true victories except those that are eternal. Don’t waste your life striving after the wind, but exhaust your strength for the glory of the Living God and the advancement of His Kingdom. The soldier shouldn’t lose himself in civilian matters. The only battles worth fighting are those that can be remembered when we stand prostrate at the throne of God on the last day. There is one cause and one Christ, so build your house on the Rock and await the coming storm.
There is no greater joy than knowing you will be worshipping your Lord face to face in the presence of the angels and in the harmony of all the voices of those bought with the blood of Christ. On that day, your voice will be lost in the thundering of the songs of the redeemed. Also now, your voice must be fading away and heeding to His. He must increase, you must decrease – there is no other way but through Calvary. You are no longer your own, but His.
Your brother in Christ,
Matt Higby
