BMH has received word that Christian Becker has resigned as pastor of First Brethren Church in Buena Vista, Va., after 13 years of ministry there. He announced in the morning worship service on August 26 that his resignation would be effective December 31.
In his remarks Becker highlighted many of the church’s accomplishments and successes during his ministry. Some of those included local television commercials, a new youth center, many successful outreach events, two awards from CE National for Ideas of the Year, two mission trips to build houses in Mississippi after hurricane Katrina, and a local missions project to renovate a widow’s home.
Becker also noted that he was privileged to serve several years as President of the Buena Vista United Fund and 10 years as President of the Buena Vista Ministerial Alliance. In addition he wrote a weekly evangelistic column in a local newspaper.
“We reached a point where we had taken the church as far as we could in fulfilling its purpose,” Becker explained. “We are rejoicing in the spiritual victories and lives that have been changed over the last 13 years. My wife, Marion, and I are looking forward to what God may have for us as we begin a new chapter in our lives. We pray God’s best for First Brethren Church.”
