This week, the Wooster, Ohio, Daily Record is featuring “Unsung Heroes,” individuals who have quietly and unassumingly meet specific community needs. Yesterday, they featured Jamie Leach, a member of Grace Church, a Charis Fellowship congregation in Wooster (Nick Cleveland, pastor). A portion of the story appears below. Unsung Hero: Aspiring to be ‘the hands and feet of Jesus’
Jamie Leach wishes she had a bigger house.
It’s not because she wants a gourmet kitchen, or a home theater or an extra bathroom or two.
Jamie Leach isn’t the type to want things for herself.
But if her house — which used to be her grandparents’ place — were bigger, she said, she could fill it with more children.
Children like 3-year-old Logan — or Lolo — who sleeps peacefully next to Leach on the living room couch, while newborn puppies, a miniature horse and his siblings are in motion all around him.
Lolo came to the Leaches at 4 months as a foster child. He’s been a member of the family from the day he came to the house, so his adoption was just formalizing that relationship.
Leach said. “He has that contagious smile,” Leach said. “His spirit is contagious and he’s going to go places, I just know.”
Others have come and gone. Had it been possible to adopt all of them, Leach said she would have.
If only she had a larger house.
Still, there is plenty going on in the house she has at Healing Hooves Farm, where miniature horses are brought into the house to settle them enough to go into nursing homes and hospitals.
