Kary Oberbrunner, former Grace Brethren pastor and author (he wrote the BMH Book, Called), is leading church this morning at the former Ohio Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The site was used as the Shawshank Prison in the film, The Shawshank Redemption, which was filmed in 1994. This weekend, the region is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the filming of the blockbuster movie with tours of the prison, a driving tour of sites where scenes were filmed, and other events, including a nondenominational church service.
Kary has used the movie (and its prison setting) as a metaphor for the struggle people feel in difficult situations as he released his most recent book, Day Job to Dream Job.
