CE National is offering two ministry trips for adults this summer. Both are designed to help adults experience ministry in urban areas.
Jon Rauch, family and discipleship pastor at Grace Community Church in Goshen, Ind. (Jim Brown, senior pastor), and a CE National Board of Directors member, is leading a trip to New York City. Joel Hawthorne, CE National Board of Director’s member and member at Grace Church, Akron, Ohio (Jeff Bogue, senior pastor), is leading a trip to Los Angeles.
Urban Experience will give participants a taste of evangelism in the city. Both trips will have training and hands-on ministry opportunities. Both trips are a great opportunity for either a small group to experience together or for training people within the church.
Urban Experience New York City runs June 24 through July 1 and will be based at Grace Church in Clifton, N.J. Monday and Tuesday the group will experience New York City ministry with Metro Ministries, enjoy the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and more.
Wednesday-Friday will include helping with children’s, youth, and adult programs in Clifton.
Clifton has one of the highest concentrations of Muslims on the East Coast. This community is so diverse they have six churches of different ethnic groups meeting in the one building. The groups include Korean, Albanian, Spanish, English, and others.
The cost of the trip is $585. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due May 1, 2017, with the balance due June 1. (The price will increase $50 after June 1.) The cost includes food, t-shirt, transportation in and around New York, training, and transportation to New York if participants are coming from Indiana, Ohio, or Pennsylvania. Space is limited to the first 25 registered participants.
Urban Experience Los Angeles runs July 29-August 6. Orientation and ministry training will take place at the Grace Brethren Church in Norwalk the first two days. Monday and Tuesday the group will go to Skid Row and work with the Union Rescue Mission, one of the largest missions of its kind in America. The team will sleep on the roof of the facility experiencing homelessness for the evening and while overlooking downtown Los Angeles.
Wednesday through Friday the participants will team up with other local churches in the Southern California area to do a three-day evangelist event in Boyle Heights which will include children’s, young people, and adult programming. Boyle Heights is in a Latino community that is very open to the gospel.
Saturday will be a day to reflect back on the week and attend a service at SaddleBack Church, before returning home on Sunday.
The cost of the trip is $625. The price includes local transportation expenses, a t-shirt, meals, housing, and training materials. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due May 15. The balance is due June 15. (The price will increase $50 after June 15.) Housing will be provided by various people from local area churches. Space is limited to the first 20 registered participants. Participants flying in will need to arrive at LAX before 3 p.m. July 29.
Both trips are designed to help participants to live ON MISSION and engage with neglected people groups in urban settings to share the hope of the gospel and to return home excited about sharing their faith in their local community.
