Several Charis Fellowship congregations joined together in April to help better their community. Members of Grace Family Church, New Holland, Pa. (Tim Hodge, pastor), and Grace Church, Ephrata, Pa. (Kim Robertson, pastor), helped paint the playground equipment. The effort was reported by Lancaster Online. A portion of the story appears below. Churches supplying volunteers to prep Terre Hill park for summer activities
It takes a community to clean up a park. Ask any volunteer who donates time each year to the Community Clean Up Days at Terre Hill Community Memorial Park.
This year’s event begin Friday and continues Saturday. Residents, company employees, ELANCO Life Skills and Terre Hill Mennonite School students and members of Boy Scout Troop 172 are weeding, mulching, planting, trimming and painting this weekend.
Volunteering for the first time are 150 members from Grace Family Church, New Holland, and Ephrata Grace Church. These volunteers will work Sunday — Earth Day — to seal the pressure-treated wood inside and around the Timbers Playground.
Although Sunday is Earth Day, the Rev. Tim Hodge, Grace Family Church, said it was a coincidence that their community service fell on that day.
“We don’t do it for recognition, but are called to give back to the community and to the land God gave us to care for,” he said.
Instead of a church service, the members will give their time to the community project followed by a picnic.
