On Friday, April 11, Chicago-based poetry slam and open mic veteran John Shirk will be hosting a book release for his new book entitled A Sacrificial Poet. The book is about being a wordsmith who follows Jesus, the Son of God, a human historical figure, a prophet, the one who’s life is believed to have been offered as a sacrifice for the emancipation of humanity from sin.
The night’s events will also include the “Jesus Poetry Slam”, featuring some of Chicago’s finest poets, including Amy Beth, Billy Tuggle, Dan Sullivan, (founder of the Chicago Weeds Open Mic), Gregorio Gomez, Gregory Pickett, Joshua Benn Warner, Mary McConnell, Mojdeh Stoakley, Nikki Patin and Rick Vazquez – all of whom are prolific spoken word artists in the Chicago poetry scene. They will each perform based on the theme “Jesus of Nazareth.”
The event will be held on the campus of Columbia College. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The suggested donation is $5.
