Norton unites against human trafficking
NORTON – The auditorium at Grace Church on Cleveland-Massillon Road Nov. 17 was full; there was scarcely an empty seat to be found. The three screens all read, “Norton United.” The people were gathered, in the words of Pastor Dan Gregory, “for a heavy topic.”
The evening had a panel of experts who presented a two-hour, pared-down version of the all-day inservice last month for Norton school employees.
The statistics that night were unsettling, at best. Ohio, it turns out, is a destination hub in child sex trafficking. The city of Barberton is among the top 10 “destinations.”
Norton was not specifically listed that night, but the experts did say that areas of activity tended to cluster around highway access points. Norton, like No. 1 Fairlawn/Bath, has several.
