Yesterday’s post on the SEEDnet blog by Nathan Wells, executive director SEEDnet, the Charis Fellowship organization that provides hope to Spiritually, Emotionally, Economically, and Developmentally through the development of churches, provided an interesting description of what the folks at SEEDnet do! They are circuit-riding preachers! Check it out here.
I was invited to be the “circuit-riding preacher” for our town’s Bicentennial Celebration Church Service!
It was an honor to preach the Word to those in attendance and it occurred to me that SEEDnet is continuing the great tradition of circuit riding preachers from long ago.
Circuit Riding Preachers referred to the clergy in the earliest years of the United States who were assigned to travel around specific geographic territories (usually out of the way places) to minister to settlers and organize congregations.
It’s what SEEDnet does today! But we use mini-vans instead of horses. We travel around, to out of the way places, preach the gospel and plant churches!
Pray for us modern day circuit-riding-preachers to keep doing our job!
