There is one Grace Brethren congregation on Connecticut and it is located 45 east of Newtown, where the tragic school shooting occurred on Friday. Still, the community of Wethersfield, home to CenterPoint Community Church (Christopher Skowronek, pastor), deeply felt the impact of the event. Here’s a report today from Pastor Skowronek.
I’m sure like many congregations did, we stopped yesterday and took time to talk about sin/evil and how we can respond to this tragedy as followers of Christ. I was also just asked by our town manager to help plan a town wide vigil for this coming Sunday night. This is the first time I have seen our town do anything like this since 9/11.
Tonight our town fire companies (we have 3) will be having their annual Christmas celebrations. I am not sure what that will look like exactly this year in light of Friday. I serve as the Fire Chaplain to all three companies and I know that our first responders in town feel these sort of event deeply. The first responders in Newtown were eyewitnesses to this tragedy in a way that few of us could understand the way that other first responders can.
Pray for Pastor Skowronek and CenterPoint Community Church as they reach out to those who are hurting and are in need during this time.
