Want to know how communicate more effectively — as a writer, pastor, or speaker? Looking for new ways to share about your ministries through video? Interested in knowing how to effectively use social media techniques to tell your congregation’s story? Then check out Connecting Through Communications, a workshop sponsored by the Brethren Missionary Herald Company and held Saturday, July 23, prior to the national conference of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. The workshop will begin with a pre-lunch general session led by James Watkins, award-winning author and university instructor, who will speak on Communicate to Change Lives.
Following lunch, concurrent workshops will be held on Media that Moves!, Social Networking 101, and Writing as a Ministry. These workshops, described below, will be led by Kate Ward, of Draw Productions, and Liz Cutler Gates and Terry White, both of the Brethren Missionary Herald Company. Participants will also discuss how to best collaborate to benefit the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.
Communicate to Change Lives
Award-winning author and university instructor, James Watkins, will share biblical and behavioral principles to help you effectively communicate as a pastor, speaker, teacher, writer, or parent of a teenager.

Media that Moves!
Video and animated images are being used effectively to communicate the messages of the Bible. Whether you want to enhance your worship service, capture life-changing testimonies, add visual and compelling video to your website, or supplement a teaching, sermon, or lesson….video is a great way to teach, entertain, and move audiences in a way that other mediums can’t. Whether you are currently involved in media at your church or you would just like to learn more, we want to help. We will talk about ways to use media in your church and ways we can collaborate on news videos for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. Guided by Kate Ward of Draw Productions.

Writing as a Ministry
God chose the written word as His way to reveal Himself to mankind, and has used writing throughout history to challenge, encourage, and lead people to Himself. Writing is great stewardship—over time and over space—and has the power to change lives. Topics will include how to use writing to assist the ministry of the local church and feedback from real-life readers whose lives have been challenged, altered, and drawn to the Lord through the printed page. Presenter will be Terry White, author, editor, journalism educator, and publisher of BMH Books.
