Columbus Zoo to host fundraiser for water pumps for Africa
A nonprofit engineering organization seeking to provide water pumps to 100 African villages will launch fundraising next week at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
Design Outreach’s Hundred Pump Project event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the zoo’s new Heart of Africa exhibit, which includes photos from a water-pump installation in Malawi last year.
The group seeks to raise more than $900,000 to build its LifePumps and install them in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Malawi and Zambia. With support from Christian nonprofit World Vision, it hopes to install the first 30 pumps this year.
