The “life-on-life” discipleship model is a fresh, biblical method for leadership development utilized by Perimeter Church in Atlanta, Ga. Randy Pope, founding pastor, will be leading a session on this transformational approach to church leadership on Friday, July 26 during Vision2020 South, the national conference of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.
Pope will speak on ways to move beyond the usual methods of “teaching and executing” into a broader scope of missional leadership. Through investing in discipleship with a do-or-die mindset, coaching and supporting the laity in addition to teaching and executing, pastors have an opportunity for greater impact on their congregations and communities.
“I often tell people ‘if you want a legacy–a generational impact–then give your life to investing in the lives of a few men or women,’” said Pope. ‘I believe this life-on-life model incorporates the very best elements of the other church models and ensures that the church continues to be relevant as it gives expression to the dramatic nature of the gospel message.”
Perimeter Church has helped start six global church planting centers and has partnerships with nationals in eight countries providing ongoing training for church leaders. In addition, the congregation has helped plant 28 churches in the greater Atlanta area and is a founding partner of Unite, a group of more than 120 churches from different denominations working together to bring Kingdom transformation to the city of Atlanta. Perimeter was recently recognized by Leadership Network as number four in the list of “America’s Top 25 Multiplying Churches.”
Randy is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Reformed Theological Seminary. He moved to Atlanta in 1977 to plant Perimeter Church, a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He has authored four books and has also written a three-year missional discipleship curriculum, The Journey, and developed effective tools used throughout the United States and abroad in support of evangelism and discipleship
Randy and his wife, Carol, have four married children and nine grandchildren.
This year’s Vision 2020 South Leadership Conference will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, Ga. The conference will feature inspirational speakers, mobile learning labs, and meals with a purpose.
