Also from the “Grace Connection,” word was received this week that Dr. Stephen Young, 61, of Denver, Colorado, died of liver cancer on May 15. Dr. Young is a 1968 graduate of Grace College and taught in Grace’s Speech Department from 1975-78.
He was an outstanding student during his days at Grace and served as Student Body President during his senior year. After moving to Denver, he worked for US West (now Quest) and then taught at Denver Theological Seminary.
Memorial services will be held in Lakewood, Colorado. Please keep his wife, Bonnie (Pauley, BS 68), and the family in your prayers. He is the younger brother of Dr. Jerry Young, longtime pastor at the Lititz, PA, Grace Brethren church and now research and development director for the Association of Grace Brethren Ministers. The Youngs’ mother, Edith, lives at Grace Retirement Village in Winona Lake, Indiana.
The Denver Seminary website contained the following information:
On Tuesday, May 15, Dr. Steve Young’s struggle with cancer ended. He fought this terrible disease with dignity and in the hope and peace of the promised resurrection of our Lord and Savior—Jesus Christ. The memorial service is Friday, May 18 at 7pm at Southern Gables on Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood.
In addition to the memorial service at Southern Gables, Denver Seminary students, faculty and staff are invited to a remembrance service in the Executive Board Room on Thursday, May 17 at 2pm.
We will miss Steve and his wise, insightful counsel. He had the ability to sort through distractions in order to find the Godly wisdom that was needed. He was a trusted counselor and confidant.
Please pray for Steve’s wife Bonnie, their children and the rest of their family and friends.
