The March Eagle Commission newsletter has arrived in inboxes. Here are a few items of interest. Click here to read the complete update. The Eagle Commission supports Charis Fellowship military chaplains and is sent by the Fellowship’s endorser, Mark Penfold, (Chaplain [Colonel] U.S. Army, retired).
Air Force Chaplain Phil and Penny Smith (at right) have already had two surprises this year. First, Phil and Penny are expecting! As they were preparing to enter the life of “empty nesters,” they learned that they are expecting in August. Second, Phil learned that he is scheduled for a 6-month deployment in the Middle East starting this spring. Pray for Phil and Penny … for Penny and the baby’s health, for Phil and his preparations for deployment, for God’s peace and strength in the days ahead.
Air Force Chaplain George and Rose Youstra were at Aviano Air Base (Italy) February 21-23. George was the guest speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast on February 25th. George challenged over hundreds of Airmen and Air Force leaders in attendance with the importance of prayer in everyday life.
For those of you wondering, yes, the Youstra’s returned safely from Italy before the Coronavirus pandemic came to that country in full force, but they were required to self-quarantine at home upon their return.
On February 22nd, Grace Brethren Church of Clinton, Maryland, in partnership with Encompass World Partners, hosted the one-day Connect and Equip missions event to encourage missions efforts throughout our Fellowship. Chaplain Billy Graham hosted a seminar during the day to present the topic of Missions in the Military. In a society where people practice multiple faiths or have no faith at all, he challenged the attendees to be confident with the gospel. Chaplain Graham drew from his many encounters with soldiers to emphasize the importance of loving people where they are, boldly sharing the gospel with them.
Thank you for praying for Air Force Reserve Chaplain Dan Rosenberg (center, in photo at right). Congratulations, Dan, on your graduation from the U.S. Air Force Officer Training Course on Friday, March 13th at Maxwell Air Force Base, AL. He returned home to work alongside other Air Force Reserve chaplains. Please continue to pray for Dan and the other chaplains as they train young airmen and their families in Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University curriculum. As they introduce biblical principles related to money management, chaplains often have the opportunity to talk about spiritual values, priorities and how Jesus is the only One who can meet our deepest needs.
