Mike Dorr of Norcross, Ga., has been named director of finance for Encompass World Partners (formerly Grace Brethren International Missions). He will succeed Ryan Bowell, who will conclude his employment as chief financial officer with Encompass on October 31.
Dorr has served as finance director for three companies in Georgia, including The Gingrich Group, OneSource Computer Service, and Wise Business Forms, Inc. He also held management positions at Park ‘N Fly, Inc., the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, and other companies. He has extensive experience in financial and operations management, strategic planning, and human resources.
Dorr is a graduate of the University of Hartford (B.S., Business Administration), and Emory University (M.B.A.). He attends NorthPoint Community Church in Alpharetta, Ga., and is a board member for Mentor Me North Georgia. He also served as an advisory board member and mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters. He and his wife, Elaine, have a daughter, Kelley, 10.
“Using my talents in a manner pleasing to God is a necessity to me,” said Dorr. “Bringing my talents to a forward-thinking, recognized leader in mission building is a luxury. Working with Encompass World Partners will allow me to fulfill both.”
“We are very pleased that God is bringing a man with Mike’s experience to Encompass,” observed Dave Guiles, executive director for Encompass. “He will play a key role in helping us navigate the rapidly changing landscape of financing our global ministries.”
Dorr began his work in the Encompass Atlanta office on Monday, September 17.
Encompass World Partners (formerly GBIM) serves as the cross-cultural ministries arm of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. It employs more than 120 workers from North America, with an additional 80 workers from other locations who form part of the global team. With ministries in 34 countries, the mission pursues its mandate to share the message of Jesus Christ among the least-reached peoples of the world.
