Pentagon firefighter Larry Everett faced a physical wall of fire on 9/11. (See 9/11 Firefighter Remembers ‘Taste of Hell’ at Pentagon.) But the Bible says that anyone who has not received Christ as Savior will experience a very real “lake of fire” forever.
Because of man’s sin, the bond that had existed between God and humankind was severed. In our present state, we cannot have a relationship with our Creator. The punishment for that broken relationship is eternal separation from God–eternity in hell.
However, God, in His love for us, sent His Son, Jesus, to die. His death paid the price for our sin. Jesus’ sacrifice made it possible for everyone to receive forgiveness and salvation. All we have to do is accept this free gift.
If you would like to receive salvation and escape eternal punishment, pray these or similar words to God:
Father, I know I am a sinner. I know I deserve damnation for my sins. Please forgive them and accept me as Your child. I realize it is only through Your Son’s death that I can have this salvation and forgiveness. Please help me live for You from this moment on. Amen.
