Community Grace Brethren Church of Everett, PA (Jeff Peeler, pastor) was one of several recently burglarized, according to a report this morning by WJACTV news from Johnstown, PA:
BEDFORD COUNTY — The Weyant United Methodist Church in King Township, Bedford County is a place of worship, a place where the needy can come for help. But sometime Wednesday night/Thursday morning, it along with a half dozen others was burglarized.
A mangled up file cabinet and kicked in door is most of the damage the Community Grace Brethren Church in South Woodberry Township received. They say the 100 to 150 dollars in damage is light compared to what could have happened.
Pastor Jeff Peeler says that the criminal or criminals went through every room of the church, only stealing a petty cash drawer, which just contained receipts. Pastor Jeff says that the offering bag had been ripped open, but only a check was in it and left behind. He feels the person or people were only looking for cash.
Probably a person who has a drug problem and is just desperately looking for cash anyway they can get it, a hurting person, says Pastor Jeff.
The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating these crimes and are not releasing much information at this time. They do say six to seven churches were victimized and want all area churches to be on alert.
