Program started after local pastor experienced a house fire
Members of the Red Cross, Wooster Fire Department, and Grace Church teamed up on Sunday, June 25, to install smoke detectors in area homes. The volunteers placed 69 alarms in 28 homes.
The program is a result of a fire that took place in the home of Grace Church Senior Pastor Nick Cleveland.
Cleveland and his wife, Vicki, were home at the time the fire started.
“They, luckily, got out of their house in time,” said Lara Kiefer, executive director of the Lake Erie/Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross. “They realized when they were out of their home for four or five months how much support they received from the Red Cross and their church family.”
