Word has been received of the death of Marian Thurston, retired missionary to the Central African Republic.
Marian Thurston, 87, of Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown, Iowa, died Monday, December 31, 2012, while under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Marian Doris Thurston was born in rural Tama County; she was the daughter of Glenn and Floy (Dobson) Thurston, she was educated in Green Mountain School District graduating with the class of 1942. Marian then attended nursing school graduating with her R.N. degree. Marian was a medical missionary in Central Africa for 38 plus years, she had been a member of Carlton Brethren Church and loved the children as she taught in many capacities at church and in the missionary field.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister and nieces and nephews.
In death Marian rejoins her parents, Glenn and Floy and, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Carlton Brethren Church in rural Garwin. There will be no visitation.
