Grace Community Church in Frederick, Md. (R Greene, pastor), was one of several sponsors of last weekend’s Convoy of Hope in the surrounding Frederick County. The above video was produced by Scott Avey, worship pastor at the church, to report on the event.
“This is the third time Convoy of Hope has been in Frederick and the third time GCC has been involved,” says Brenda Rata, who served as point person for the event. “In fact, each year our involvement gets bigger. The sponsors are churches, businesses, and community agencies. The one time all three come together to serve the poor and working poor in Frederick.”
She continues, “This year one of our members planned all the musical acts/entertainment. His name is David Hyden. Also, the health tent was organized by our elder, Goeff Seidel. In addition, our Celebrate Recovery ministry served in the Community Services tent. The rest of our families packed groceries, worked in the Kids Zone; washed feet; prayed with people; helped in security and packed food for Feed My Starving Children.”
The event saw 3,844 guests; 1,723 volunteers; 120 salvation decisions; 500 family portraits; 274 hair cuts; 240,000 pounds of groceries distributed; 1,300 shoes distributed (1,200 distributed on site, 100 pairs for July 27); 774 women were seen through the National Breast Cancer Foundation Tent; and 108,864 Meals packed for Feed My Starving Children. In the Kidzone, 90 Truth Chaser correspondence courses handed out in 2012; 22 of those children completed the course, resulting in two decisions for salvation.
