Gene Moine, a lifetime member of the Grace Brethren Church, Rittman, Ohio (Bud Olszewski, pastor), and father of Jacquie Jensen and Julie Hawkins, who have served with Encompass World Partners, died on Sunday. Pastor Bud remembers, “He is known by many of our missionaries for his building/mason work at several mission fields and churches. Carried to church as an infant, he has been a most beloved member of Rittman Grace for his 85 years.” Gene’s obituary appears below.
Gene A. Moine, 85, moved peacefully from the home he built in 1959 to a mansion in glory on Nov. 19, 2017.
He was born Jan. 12, 1932, on Sterling Avenue in Rittman to the late A. Clair and Iva Fern (Kreider) Moine and lived most of his life in Wadsworth. He graduated from Sterling High School and Kent State University.
He retired after teaching mathematics at Wadsworth High School for 27 years and was also a brick mason for more than 30 years. He volunteered his skills on more than 40 mission projects in four different continents.
Gene loved the outdoors and spent hours in his flower and vegetable garden where he memorized Psalms and prayed daily for his family. He rode his bike daily and loved to travel. Gene liked games and played Upwards, Hearts and basketball with his friends and family.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mamie (Huff) Moine; children, Jacquie (Doug) Jensen of Cameroon, Jill (David) Jensen of Wadsworth, Joel (Jenny) Moine of Sterling, Jeff (Rhonda) Moine of Huntington, W.Va., and Julie Hawkins of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Luke (Kristin) Jensen, Lily (Joel) Hocking, Kari (Andrew) Snyder, Caleb, Zach and Jonah Moine, Stephanie, Sara and Susana Hawkins, Joellyn, Joanna, Jessica and Jennay Moine; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat (Tom) Rupp of Seville and Donna Miller of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Wilbur Moine.
Services will be Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 44 S. First St., Rittman, with Pastor Bud Olszewski officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Rittman.
Friends may call Friday, Nov. 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
