Grace Brethren holds off Lawndale in battle of state champs to reach Division 3 semifinals
It was a matchup of two reigning state champions and neither was willing to yield, but the Grace Brethren High football team emerged victorious over Lawndale High 33-31 in Friday night’s CIF-Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinal game at Los Angeles Pierce College.
The win sets the two-time CIF-SS champion Lancers (11-1) up for a semifinal match against La Habra next Friday night. Grace Brethren will be the home team, with the site to be determined.
Grace Brethren used two distinctively different halves in the hard-fought victory — explosive big-yardage plays in the first half and methodical, time-consuming drives in the second half.
