County office of education hosts VEX Robotics competition
Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, built innovative robots designed to score the most points possible in qualification matches, elimination matches and skills challenges at Saturday’s VEX Robotics competition at the Ventura County Office of Education.
In the third year of the competition, 176 middle and high school students battled head-to-head — or robot-to-robot — to duke it out over who had the best invention.
Students from R.J. Frank Academy of Marine Science and Engineering in Oxnard took home the design award. Two student groups from Grace Brethren School in Simi Valley also took home awards — the judges’ award and the excellence award. Schools from Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills and Calabasas also took home awards.
