Grace College’s women’s soccer team was recognized with a wealth of national awards this week after a strong 2016 season.
The Lady Lancers picked up six All-American awards from the NAIA and NCCAA along with 11 other national honors.
Schue was also named Third Team NCCAA All-American and was honored to the NCCAA All-Tournament Team for her performance at the NCCAA National Championships.
She finished the season with 11 shutouts in 21 matches, posting a career-high 110 saves in the process.
“Abby is the best goalkeeper we’ve had at Grace, and our coaching staff is proud of her for this award. We believe that she is absolutely one of the best goalkeepers in the nation,” said Grace head coach Michael Voss. “She has continued to improve each year here at Grace. This year she was put to task more than any other with the schedule we played. Abby is a great representative for our team this year. The team celebrates as one for this recognition.”
Hollar was given honorable mention status for NAIA All-American and was also Third Team NCCAA All-American. She led Grace’s attack all season with 10 goals and three assists.
Hollar scored the game-winning goal in five of the Lady Lancers’ eight wins. She has worked “incredibly hard and overcome much adversity,” according to Voss, to reach her potential. The three-time All-American, who was also named the NCCAA’s Game Plan 4 Life winner, graduates fifth in team history for career goals and sixth for career points.
Grout was a controlling presence in Grace’s midfield, picking up a goal and two assists. Jadoo cemented a strong defensive line for Grace; the Lady Lancers only surrendered four goals in their last 10 matches.
Additionally, Grace was recognized for its outstanding work in the classroom. Grout, Hollar, Schue, Kaitlyn Hayes, Meredith Matson, Sabina Meyers, Hannah Miller, Emma Neahusan, Carlie Salinas and Marina Tolczyk were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. To become a Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.5 and achieve upperclassman status. — from gclancers.com
