Grace Theological Seminary recently announced the hiring of Dr. Matt Harmon as a full-time faculty member at Grace Seminary effective this fall semester. He was unanimously approved by both the Grace Cabinet and the Board of Trustees.
Harmon will be Associate Professor of New Testament Studies. His undergraduate degree is a B.S., Ohio University; and graduate degrees include M.Div., Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; and Ph.D., Wheaton College.
Dr. Harmon brings a passion to equip people to encounter Christ through the Scriptures and lead others to do so as well. His research interests include the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, Biblical Theology, Pauline studies, and the life/ministry/theology of Jonathan Edwards.
He has served as full-time staff with Campus Crusade for Christ for eight years, doing evangelism and discipleship with college students. He has taught courses at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Wheaton College, as well in the local church. On a regular basis Dr. Harmon also teaches for Campus Crusade for Christ, helping to train staff in interpreting and teaching Scripture.
In his spare time Dr. Harmon also teaches training workshops for Bibleworks. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society for Biblical Literature.
More information about Dr. Harmon is available on the Grace Seminary website. Here is an excerpt from an online interview with him:
1)What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of teaching and ministry?
Besides spending time with my family (see the next question), my biggest hobby is definitely sports. Chief among my interest in sports is Ohio State football. Saturdays during the fall are a special time in the Harmon household. I also enjoy reading and tinkering with computers.
2)Who are the members of your immediate family?
I have been married to my wife Kate for ten years. She loves to read, and is particularly interested in church history. We have two sons — Jonathan is eight and Jacob is five. Both of them love sports. Jonathan enjoys basketball and baseball, while Jacob may be the biggest Ohio State football fan in our family. I love to play sports with my boys, as well as board games. As a family we enjoy having people in our home, extending hospitality, and playing games.
3) What is one of your most memorable experiences in ministry?
God has blessed me with so many memorable ministry experiences that it is hard to select just one. During the summer of 1994 I spent eight weeks in Albania proclaiming the gospel to people who had never heard of Jesus. Seeing people come to faith in Christ who had never heard the gospel changed my life and gave me a heart for seeing the gospel advance to the ends of the earth.
