The byline of MariJean Sanders frequently appears on the “pages” of GraceConnect — either on this site, in the GraceConnect eNews, or in the GraceConnect magazine. She’s a gifted writer with a variety of creative interests, including baking. This week she was recognized on the literary food blog, Eat this Poem. MariJean, who is a recent English and Journalism graduate from Grace College, won second place in the blog’s contest with her poem, “Translation.” A portion of the poem appears below. You should know
we resort to cookies
when we run out of words.
when saying is too sharp
or too incoherent –
here have some
extra-stuffed chocolate chip, pumpkin-buttermilk
seven layer snickerdoodle
(yes let’s fill you up with too much sweet –
as if you really need it-)
it’s maternal instinct, maybe.
Or perhaps we just fail at loving,
and all we’ve got to hide behind now, our
is coded for your tastebuds, masterpiece-by-the-dozen
(maybe you missed it)
allow me to translate.
