“You never know what you are going to be getting into,” said Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries, as he spoke to students, youth staff, and guests Wednesday morning at Momentum Youth Conference.
The annual youth conference is being held at Indiana Wesleyan University through Sunday. Nearly 3,000 people are in attendance.
Myers stressed that everyone is looking for answers. God has made an offer of reconciliation that should be shared.
He gave provided a simple method to begin a discussion about God’s truth that begins with a statement: “I am curious.”
The statement is followed by a series of questions that could be used as needed:
- Do you ever think about spiritual things?
- What do you mean?
- How did you arrive at that conclusion?
- How do you know what you believe is true?
- If you were wrong would you want to know?
He suggested a final statement: Here’s what I believe and why I think it’s true.
Also at Wednesday morning’s session, illusionist Brett Myers dazzled the students by recreating Harry Houdini’s metamorphosis, an illusion where the performer is handcuffed and placed in a locked box. He then escapes and is replaced in the box by his assistant.
This afternoon was full of many opportunities, including Acts 1:8 service projects, sports tournaments, Momentum’s Got Talent, and round 1 of Bible quizzing.
Tonight’s main session has speaker Afshin Ziafat returning to the Momentum platform. In addition, the national youth offering will be taken and Operation Barnabas will perform. The session will be held in the Chapel Auditorium.
