Janis Ann Jenkins of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, Ind., went home to be with the Lord at 8:07 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the age of 93. She was the widow of retired Navy Chaplain, Lee Jenkins, who also served as the Chaplain Endorsing Agent for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches (Charis Fellowship) from 1987 to 1995.
Janis was born on April 16, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, to Robert “Bert” Pleasant and Dessie (Moore) Pleasant. On November 2, 1946, she was married to Charles Lee Jenkins, who died on April 12, 2000.
Janis was active in ministry to Navy wives during her husband’s 18 years as a Navy chaplain and worked as a secretary at DePuy in Warsaw for 15 years after his retirement. She was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, enjoyed painting, music, and home decorating. Most of all she loved her family and grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jim (wife Kathie) Jenkins (Jacksonville, Fla.); daughter, Robin (husband Mark) Laurenson (Warsaw, Ind.); and three grandchildren: Lisa Stoll Ron, Jonathan Stoll, and Jami Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother.
There will be an hour of visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow.
