Dr. John C. Whitcomb, former professor at Grace Theological Seminary and a BMH Books author, died in his sleep last night at his home in Indianapolis, Ind.
He authored numerous books on Old Testament and creation topics, including the landmark work on creationism, The Genesis Flood, which he co-authored with Dr. Henry M. Morris.
The family wrote on the Whitcomb Ministries Facebook page: “While we will miss him dearly and are deeply saddened at his passing, we know that he is now with the Lord—awaiting the resurrection and reunion with all believers in Christ.
Appropriately, he spent his final waking hours working on a paper that he was writing,”
His son, David C. Whitcomb, shared how he’d been working on a biography of his father’s life, spanning the years from 1924 to 1961. He wrote on his Facebook page, “During the time period of the biography (1924 to 1961) he looked up to several great men who were mentors to him – people he called is “fathers”: Col. John C Whitcomb Sr (biological father), Dr. Donald Fullerton (spiritual father), Dr. Alva J. McClain (theological father) and Henry Morris PhD (scientific father). They were all very proud of him and his work.
The final paragraph of the final chapter of his biography is copied below.
John Whitcomb never wanted positions of power. He, like a good soldier wanted to please his commander, and his adopted fathers. And he did receive words of true praise from all of them. But there is one more alcalde that John Whitcomb is waiting for. It is from his Heavenly Father, who, when the time comes will say:
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.’”
