Sheryl Joyce Hughes, of Fredericksburg, Texas, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the age of 68. Sheryl is survived by her loving husband Thomas Hughes, three sons Charles Alan Hughes and wife Melissa of Harper, Gerald Stewart Hughes and wife Debbie of Bakersfield, CA and Thomas Donald Hughes Jr. of Bakersfield, CA, three grandchildren Sarah Nicole Hughes of Bakersfield, CA, Matthew Thomas Hughes of Bakersfield, CA and Seth Alan Hughes of Harper. She is also survived by two brothers John Strickland of Lamar, MO, James Strickland of Alaska and a sister Jerry Hillsman of Lamar, MO.
Sheryl was born on July 6, 1943 in Woodward, OK. She was a high school graduate and attended 2 years of Bible College. Sheryl married Thomas Hughes on July 27, 1965 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They live in several places before moving to Fredericksburg a few years ago. Sheryl and Thomas are members of Oak Hills Church. Sheryl worked as a chef for The Inn on the Creek and also worked with Absolute Charm B & B service. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a wonderful mother and wife. She was an angel on Earth to her family and a true “Proverbs 31” woman.
Among the southern California Grace Brethren churches she and her husband Tom Hughes served were Long Beach Grace, Long Beach Community, and Whittier Community.
A memorial service honoring Sheryl will be held at Oak Hills Church at a later date.
