Larry Baker and Scott Jones, of the London (Ohio) Grace Brethren Church, are not afraid to become involved. (In the photo at right, Scott is on the left.)
“Over the years I have seen people in churches take leadership roles, says Pastor Tim Ruesch. “They become decision makers but are not involved in the ministries of the church, let alone outreach.
“This is not the case with Larry and Scott. They do not just talk about us needing to go into our community, they are doing it,” he stresses.
Larry has been led to contact various businesses in London for permission to set up a table at their door so he can give away coffee and water.
“At this table he has information on how a person can know God personally and get to heaven,” says Pastor Tim. “So far several businesses have given him the green light. At one strip mall, a neighboring business has offered to supply a food item to give away. God seems to be opening a door for this outreach.”
With that ministry solidly under his belt, Larry hopes to distribute coffee and water at the London fireworks on the Fourth of July!
“This approach fits Larry well since he believes coffee to be a major food group,” notes Pastor Tim.
Scott has been London Grace’s Outreach Coordinator for several years.
“He is the creative power behind our involvement in the London Strawberry Festival where we partner with Madison Pediatrics and Elizabeth’s Hope Pregnancy Care Center to offer body art, craft activities, small gifts, and a baby comfort station to those at the festival,” says the pastor. This year’s festival is June 20 to 23.
“He has led Kidz Studios since its inception where we invite children to experience athletics and the arts while being presented foundational truths such as God loves them and has made them unique for a purpose,” notes Pastor Tim.
Scott has also led London Grace to have a unique presence at London’s Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration where church members give away a small gift and fresh popped popcorn.
“Sometimes he even lets me show up at these events as Mr. Incredible or Superman,” adds Pastor Tim.
