Rally seeks end to local violence
MARION – When Pastor Cory Rogers prayed after the shooting death of James Burton III, he felt a calling to create change. From that comes a Dec. 12 rally, titled “Enough is Enough.”
“A lot of people (in Marion), they think that the answer’s moving away,” said Rogers, pastor at Christ Missionary Baptist Church in Marion. “…I feel that we don’t need to move away. If the faith community comes together, we can stand up and make a difference in our own community.” … “We want to continue focusing on what has been in the community, through the Nicky Cruz outreach at the Coliseum in August – a gathering of a number of churches that helped organize that under the title ‘Hope in Marion’ and I think this prayer rally is a continuation of that emphasis,” said Jones, who described his role as being a sounding board for Rogers.
