Miriam fire grows; officials concerned about heat and wind
The Miriam Fire burning near White Pass grew to 1,106 acres Monday and was 8 percent contained.
Australian firefighters arrived Tuesday to help fire managers with structure protection, heavy equipment and safety functions, fire officials said.
The lightning-caused fire started July 30, 3 miles southeast of the White Pass Ski Area. Fire officials estimate it will be contained by Sept. 1.
Fire crews worked to build fire lines along Forest Road 540 in the northeast and Forest Road 1207 along the east side of the fire.
Managers were still working Monday on a containment strategy for the north and west flanks of the fire.
