Ted and Vivien Ruiz are missionaries with Grace Brethren International Missions in Quezon City, Philippines. A recent update to their friends and supporters carried this interesting piece of information:
“Our kind, gentle, police officer son, David, has been into Martial Arts (Judo, etc) for many years. Also, he has been a big fan of UFC “Cage Fighting” for years.
“Recently, he decided to try out Cage Fighting for himself. He trained really hard for several weeks—trimming down to 185 lbs —pure muscle!
“The tournament was March 31 in Goshen, Indiana. After eliminating his first opponents, he faced the much-feared “Tarzan” in the Championship Round. David knocked him out cold and sent him to the hospital (sorry).
David received a huge 6’ x 10’ poster of himself (to be hung in the arena rafters), a huge belt to wear (and keep), and $1,000 ! This accomplishment really meant a lot to David. We are so very proud of him! He is seeking God’s guidance if God wants him to do more Cage Fighting in the future.”
