Church giving back to community
MOUNT VERNON — December is here; with the arrival of the new month comes Christmas cheer and the spirit of giving. This winter, Mount Vernon’s Grace Community Church has been channeling their charitable efforts into a very important cause: A Food for the Hungry food drive. In previous years, parishioners of Grace Community Church had donated to Food for the Hungry individually, but this year, for the first time, the congregation as a whole has come together to collectively participate in a churchwide Food for the Hungry drive.
Church members began collecting donated foods during the second week in November and will continue to accumulate items until Friday. On Saturday, the food will be packed up, transported and donated to Food for the Hungry.
Roger Tickle, pastor of Grace Community Church, is excited about the way his parishioners have been participating in the drive and hopes their example will inspire others in the community to give to charitable organizations as well.
