Community binds together in faith
MOUNT VERNON — Praise and prayer returned to Public Square on Thursday in the annual recognition of the National Day of Prayer. Prayers were offered by numerous community leaders, and providing inspirational music was the praise band from New Life Church of the Nazarene.
Sponsored by the Knox Network of Christian Ministries, the theme for this year’s observance was “Wake Up America,” based on Isaiah 58:1, which states, “Shout it aloud. Do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”
“We live in some turbulent times, and probably now more than ever, we need to bind together and pray. And that’s what this is all about,” said Roger Tickle, pastor at Grace Community Church in his opening remarks as master of ceremonies.
