An alternative to trick or treating from door-to-door is being planned by Movement Church, a Grace Brethren congregation in Hilliard, Ohio (Mark Artrip, pastor), according to the Columbus, Ohio, Dispatch. The “Trunk or Treat” event was included in a round-up story about less-conventional holiday events during the Halloween season. A portion of the story appears below. Trick-or-treaters can zero in on candy at fun public events
The creativity and spookiness that some homeowners exhibit on their porches during October will be replicated Sunday on a different type of “canvas.”
Upward of 50 participants will display their decorated vehicles while thousands of youngsters in costume go trunk to trunk collecting candy.
“We thought it’d be cool to create a safe and fun environment where you can get the same amount of candy in a shorter amount of time,” said Howard, a pastor at Movement Church, which partners with the YMCA in Hilliard to organize the event.
In its sixth year, the event has evolved into a community-wide celebration, with employees of the Hilliard Police Department, Fire Department and area radio stations gathering to interact with guests.
