Several articles in the latest issue of the “Widow For a Season” newsletter by BMH Books author Kristine Pappas may be of special interest.
Jerry Giles, associate pastor at the Grace Brethren Church in Long Beach, California, writes compellingly of the effective ministry the men in the Long Beach church have had to widows there.
Giles says, “Our ministry to widows was launched with over 80 men organized into 16 teams, who were committed to serving the widows and single mothers in our church once a month.”
He continues, “My team, for example, has tiled our widow’s front porch, torn out old flourescent light fixtures and replaced them with new track lighting in her kitchen, put up shelving in her garage, cleaned up her yard, and washed her windows inside and out.”
And GBIM missionary to Novosobirsk, Russia, Iris Piatt, tells the emotional and difficult story of how she and her husband Bob struggled to blend their families and mend relationships with children after their marriage.
