WAYNESBORO – Politicians, businessmen and Red Hat ladies. No one could escape the good-natured ribbing of host John Shindledecker at Friday morning’s “Breakfast in Hollywood,” the kick-off event for the 10-day WaynesboroFest celebration.
Broadcast live from the Elks Lodge on WJEJ radio, just as the original Tom Breneman radio show was during the Sesquicentennial in 1947, the show was filled with humor, music and a palpable sense of community.
In the audience of 150 people were some who attended a “Breakfast in Hollywood” show 59 years ago in the former Waynesboro High School.
Breneman, who grew up in Waynesboro, became a nationally known radio star who never forgot his hometown roots. . .
Awards
The Rev. Roger Myers, former pastor of Grace Brethren Church whose family is moving to Hollidaysburg, received the Good Neighbor Award from Shindledecker for his volunteer work. Myers has served as the chaplain of the Waynesboro Police Department for nine years.
