Trujillos Retire
Don Shoemaker, pastor of Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren church in Seal Beach, Calif., was recognized before the Seal Beach City Council on August 10 for contributing 2,000 hours toward chaplain work with the Seal Beach Police Department (See photo at right.) Chief Jeff Kirkpatrick (left) participated in the recognition. Don began this role in 2001 and now serves as senior chaplain.
Richard Bartley of the Village Grace Mission Center, a Grace Brethren ministry located in Cleveland, Ohio, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. Bartley is the Great Lakes Regional Conference chaplain and works within seven U.S. states and Canadian provinces. He is responsible for the well-being of 79 chapters and 2,181 members as of May 2009.

Jim Murray has joined the staff of the Grace Brethren Church of Aiken, S.C. (Steve Taylor, pastor) as pastor of youth and young adults.
Andy Saunders is serving as associate pastor of family ministries at Penn Valley Church, a Grace Brethren church (Tim Boal, executive pastor) in Telford, Pa.
Jim Shipley has retired after 36 years at Grace College and Seminary, Winona Lake, Ind. He came to Grace as a student in 1964, and has served a variety of roles, including teaching both on campus and in the prison extension program, in admissions, as registrar, and most recently as director of special events.
Matt Simms is the new youth pastor/associate pastor at the Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church (Doug Sabin, pastor), Reedsville, Pa.
Kudos
Jeff Bogue has been named senior pastor at Grace Church, a Grace Brethren multi-site church in Norton and Akron, Ohio. Previously, he had co-pastored with Bob Combs, who recently retired.
In the Northcentral Ohio District of Grace Brethren Churches, Mac Cordell (Mt. Sterling, Ohio, church plant), Aaron Jones (Woodville GBC, Mansfield, Ohio), and Christian McAllister (Licking County, Ohio, GBC) were recommended to their respective congregations for licensure as elders in the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, while Bill Crabbs (Woodville GBC) was recommended for ordination. Bob Wriedt was licensed at Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren church in Seal Beach, Calif., following examination in the Southern California-Arizona District.
In Memoriam
Phyllis J. Bogue, 69, Wadsworth, Ohio, formerly of Beavercreek, Ohio, died September 24. She was the mother of Grace Brethren pastors Dave Bogue and Jeff Bogue.
Helen E. DeArmey, 85, Friedens, Pa., wife of the late Grace Brethren pastor, Max DeArmey, died September 6, 2009.
Bob Eagle, 56, Seal Beach, Calif., died August 17. He was a faithful member of Grace Community Church, a Grace Brethren church in Seal Beach, Calif.
Samuel L. Leisey, 70, of Adamstown, Pa., an elder in the Ephrata, Pa., Grace Brethren Church (Kim G. Robertson, pastor),
died August 15, 2009.
Henry Rempel died August 15 at age 105. At the time of his death, he was reputed to be the oldest living pastor in the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. Among the Grace Brethren churches Rempel led were congregations in Uniontown, Pa.; Yakima, Wash.; Norwalk, Calif.; and North Long Beach, Calif.
Louie Ricci, 86, died August 9. He was a former pastor of the Grace Brethren Church in Chico, Calif.
Doris M. Julien, 77, Warsaw, Ind., died September 5, 2009. She and her husband, Tom, faithfully ministered together for more than 50 years, first in the pastorate in Fort Wayne, Ind., then with Grace Brethren International Missions, where they served in France and at the International Missions Center in Winona Lake, Ind.

Farm Pond Baptism
More than 300 people from the Grace Brethren Church (Bob Fetterhoff, pastor), Wooster, Ohio, gathered at the farm of Rus and Maralee Boreman on August 23 for a picnic and baptism. That day, 32 individuals made a public profession of faith in very cold waters! Aiken Baptismal Celebration
A late August service at the Grace Brethren Church, Aiken, S.C. (Steve Taylor, pastor), saw these 12 people baptized. It was a time of celebration as a number of students professed their belief in Jesus Christ as their Savior, some of whom made decisions at the Momentum Youth Conference.
Trujillos Retire
In July, the Red Lake, Ariz., Grace Brethren Church honored John and Nora Trujillo upon their retirement from ministry. The church is now pastored by Cedric Betony.
