Former Grace College coach and athletic director Phil Dick (shown here with two of his grandchildren) has been battling cancer since being diagnosed with kidney cancer on January 9, 2006.
This week he is being moved into the hospice area of the Goshen (Indiana) hospital. His daughter, Michelle, has been posting regular updates during Phil’s fight with the disease. Here is part of her latest post:
“The cancer is taking over. They don’t know why the blood pressure is dropping – could be infection or a blood clot. They will be moving Dad to the Hospice wing on the Oncology hall within a few hours.
“We won’t be able to take him home, as it’ll be too difficult for Mom to care from him there. The goal now is to keep him comfortable and for us to be with him. When I first arrived, we weren’t sure if he would wake up. But he has now been awake for an hour and it’s been a blessing to talk to him. He’s resting now.
“We are encouraged to stay close, as Dad’s journey on earth is coming to an end. We have a computer here in Dad’s room, so I’ve been reading his messages to him and it’s brought him encouragement. We thank again for your love for Dad.”
