As news travels around the country about the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs, Colo., the staff at BMH wondered about the status of Grace Brethren people who live in the city. A number of Christian organizations are headquartered in the city and the Grace Brethren Church is located on Jetwing Drive, on the city’s south edge.
Here’s a report from Pastor Robert Schaffer, along with ways we can be praying for their church and the people of Colorado Springs:
The church here in Colorado Springs is about 15 miles from the fires. We do have some people in the congregation who may have lost their homes, but since the fires are still active these families are not allowed into the area. Some 32,000 people have been evacuated into various shelters all over the city and in surrounding communities. We as a church support a local rescue mission type ministry (Set Free) which has opened their doors to the displaced.
Please pray for those who have lost everything. So far no fatalities nor injuries. Pray for the over 1,000 fire fighters working around the clock. Pray for the health of city as the smoke is causing many respiratory problems. Pray also that this church would continue to participate in the recovery period. We see this as a great opportunity to show the love of Christ to this city. Finally pray for rain or moisture in any form and that the fires would be extinguished.
