The following note was distributed this morning from Dave and Sue Guiles. Dave is executive director of Grace Brethren International Missions, Winona Lake, Indiana.
On Tuesday afternoon our son Dan (21) was admitted to the hospital because of heart arrhythmia (tachycardia). He has had this condition since he was about eight years old. Usually his heart rate would speed up for a few minutes then would return to normal. However this most recent episode lasted about 10 hours, was the first time he needed medication and required five attempts to bring under control.
After weighing treatment options it seemed best to Dan and us for him to undergo a procedure designed to correct the problem by eliminating the “extra electrical connection” that sets up the circuit causing his heart to race. Thursday morning he underwent outpatient surgery at Lutheran Hospital in Ft Wayne to correct the problem.
The original diagnosis of results was extremely positive, with the doctor commenting that he had seen few cases go so well. Then Dan’s blood pressure dropped extremely low and required some pretty serious intervention in the ER. Our most recent report is that his condition has stabilized and he will soon be transferred to the ICU.
Over the next few hours the neurologist will seek to determine if permanent damage occurred during this episode. Obviously this next day will be a very stressful one for us. We are asking for your prayers and will let you know how things develop.
God is good – all the time – and we affirm our trust that He is in control of the events of our lives.
