From Pray Now, the daily prayer newsletter from Encompass World Partners:
Urgent prayer is requested for our colleague Janet Varner. As you mayknow, Janet has been very ill recently, and today we were working on evacuating her from the Central African Republic on an emergency medical flight. However, as of earlier this afternoon Janet lost consciousness. She has been admitted to a medical clinic on the grounds of the French embassy in Bangui, and her condition is “very critical.” Janet’s family has been alerted, and we ask everyone to pray. We’ll keep you updated as we receive more information.
POSTED ON ENCOMPASS WEBSITE 10/31/2015: Early last week Encompass was notified that Janet Varner, a global worker in Bangui, Central African Republic, was hospitalized in a French clinic. She had suffered from parasites for over a week, was on strong medications, and was doing better. But her condition worsened and she became very dehydrated, necessitating hospitalization. Medical evacuation was considered. But Janet is now back on the compound in Bangui and doing much better. All tests came back negative.
In corresponding with Encompass Director of Member Care, Steve Bailey, Janet says, “I’ve been so touched by so many prayers and so much care. Can you imagine, between Marie Elene [wife of Dr. Augustine Hibale, a key national church leader in CAR] and Baptist [Mid Missions] friends, all the time I was in the clinic, day and night one of them was with me! People keep calling telling me they are praying. Since I’ve been home, Marie Elene finally had to shut my door and tell people I appreciated them but they couldn’t sit with me since they were wearing me out. Bless her for understanding crazy Americans.”
Janet continues, “I think I’ve finally gotten the right medicine for the problem, it just will take time and patience. Time is available, patience; somehow that always seems to be in short supply.”
Please continue to pray that Janet makes a swift and full recovery, so she can continue ministering to the people of Central Africa, whom she loves so much, and has served for over 30 years.
