Dr. Tiberius Rata, chair of the Biblical Studies department and Professor of Biblical Studies was awarded the McClain Excellence in Teaching Award at Grace College for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The Alva J. McClain Award for Excellence in Teaching, named for the founding president of Grace College and Seminary, is given every two years to the full-time teacher who exhibits not only excellent academic quality in the classroom but also one who inspires and infuses students with a passion to learn and grow. Teachers given this award must exemplify quality teaching in the classroom, pursuit of excellence in teaching and leadership, meaningful contribution to the academic climate, and the enhancement of teaching as a profession.
A colleague described Dr. Rata, “His love for the Word and for God are evident and his commitment to academic excellence is also present. He is a unique treasure and we are very blessed to have him in our school.”
Tiberius Rata is a teacher beloved of his students, (known affectionately to some as “Papa Tibbs”) focused on training and equipping them in their walk with the Lord. Dr. Rata’s wife, Carmen, and parents were in attendance for the announcement of this award. The Rata family are part of the Winona Lake (IN) Grace Brethren Church (Bruce Barlow, lead pastor), where Dr. Rata frequently preaches.
