Grace Brethren graduate learns from emotional loss
Although Samantha Wulff’s mother wasn’t in the audience as she accepted her diploma from Grace Brethren High School last week, the recent graduate believes her spirit looked on in approval.
The 18-year-old’s mother, Brandi, died of breast cancer when Samantha was a freshman, a loss the young woman manages daily through her Christian faith.
“The only way I got through it was with God,” Samantha said. “I know that I’m going to see her again, so that makes me happy.”
Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was in her 30s. The cancer went into remission for 14 years before the disease resurfaced nearly four years ago.
Brandi kept a regular routine at home for daughters Samantha and Summer and her husband, Tom, throughout her lengthy battle with cancer
“She was so strong and she tried to keep everything normal for us,” Samantha said. “She always said God wasn’t done with her yet, and she was going to make it through, so I don’t think she wanted it to be this big part of our lives.”
The family received the full support of the community and Grace Brethren when Brandi lost her battle.
